Dear Sam,
Yesterday was a very mixed up emotional day for Grandma. I lost a very dear old friend last month and it is always sad to say goodbye. We had a beautiful party in his honor and lots of his friends and family came together to remember him. He was a very special person to many people and he will be missed.
At the very same time something so surprising happened. Another lady who is about my age was also at the party and the most extraordinary news came to light. This lady is an American just like you but her dad was a Canadian who moved to the USA a long time ago. After a considerable time of talking together we both eventually realized that her paternal grandmother was the sister!!! of my paternal grandmother. Pretty amazing isn't it? Her dad, Eric, was your Great Grandpa Gary's first cousin.
I feel so lucky! Now I have some more American relatives who join you and your Daddy. And isn't it interesting how life manages to sometimes make really good sense. While I lost someone I adored, I have now found someone new!
Love, Grandma

Thank you Sam!
Dear Sam,
What a nice time we had together this weekend. Please thank your daddy for driving you to Birch Bay so I could be with you on your 8th month birthday!
Wow! You have grown and changed so much in one month. You are sitting so nicely now and your crab-like crawling is very interesting. Don't let anyone tell you that you need to change your method because you know what is best for you better than anyone. I was amazed at how much you seem to concencrate on books when I was reading to you. I know that are are very smart. You are also very, very cute. And so warm and cuddly!!! Thank you for all those long, long cozy times we had together on the couch. You make me feel so wonderful.
I enjoyed taking you and Bob for the walk yesterday. You will remember that lots of people were looking at us and I think they thought we looked really good together. Yesterday it was just a walk, tomorrow it will be you and me in Disneyland. Just the two of us. What do you think?
I hope you are having a nice day with mom's best friend, Kristi. She is just another wonderful person in this world who loves you very much. But not as much as me.
Love, Grandma.
