Lazy Summer Days with Sam and Charlotte

Last night I returned from Birch Bay where I spent a few wonderful days with Sam and Charlotte. There were a couple of other family members there as well but I forget their names.

As usual, Sam had some interesting comments that are worth sharing.

1. Despite the fact that I repeatedly told Sam that I really don't care for tofu, he just could not accept it. After several minutes he said... "Grandma, are you deceiving me?"

2. I hope I get this one right. Jen and Sam were talking about how much they loved one another. They debated who loved whom the most and Sam said..."Mommy, just because my heart is smaller than yours doesn't mean it can't hold more love than a big one."

3. "Grandma, would you ever deny a cuddle from me?" Just for the record, I highly doubt it.

4. "No, Grandma, I can't sing you a song because I only sing rock n' roll with my dad."  Many of you have heard his amazing rendition of Ram Jam's 1977 "Black Betty."

Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)
Black Betty had a child (Bam-ba-Lam)
The damn thing gone wild (Bam-ba-Lam)
She said, "I'm worryin' outta mind" (Bam-ba-Lam)

etc.

5. "Grandma. If you like, I can get you a dung beetle. A dung beetle eats poop, Grandma." For the life of me, I can't remember why he thought I needed one.

A Three Hour Visit

The One Dog Welcoming Committee

"When can you guys clear out of here and go home?"

Nice toys, Grandma...

Jordan made it home from Whistler just in time for a qoodbye kiss. xoxo

Jen and Mike made a very quick day trip to Canada yesterday to visit Kristi, Blake and Finn's brand new baby boy, Oliver. We were happy to spend a bit of time with them over dinner before they headed south.

Jen's Slideshow of Birthday Party

I don't know if this will work or not but here is a link to Jen's slideshow that I stole off her blog. Ha! Hope it works for you.

Charlotte's First Year

Today is the day...

My mom made a good point this morning. She reminded me that today is the anniversary of my first day ever as a mother. Jennifer Brooke Thomas was born on July 4th, 1980 at 4:02 pm, weighing in at 8 lbs 3 oz and 21 1/2 inches long. This morning I have been reading her baby book, especially the page entitled "Mom's Story." And so I quote.... "October 2, 1980. It is so hard to express in words the love and adoration I have for my beautiful Jennifer Brooke. She is the most miraculous thing I have ever experienced and her smile is the biggest reward I could ever ask for in life. I know Jennifer will make me so proud and happy and will bring years of wonder to me. May she have a healthy, happy and contented life and love her family as much as we love her.  Leslie." Of course it will come as no surprise that the "Dad's Story" is still blank (with the exception of a photo I glued in it's place) but we all know how Graham feels about Jennifer. No words necessary.

And because of this blessed day 32 years ago, I am now a Grandma too! I am so proud of my eldest child and the life she lives. Happy birthday dear Jennifer! Happy July 4th to you and your American family. Your dad and I will love you all forever.

And a great time was had by all....

Charlotte took her first steps ever in front of her guests at the end of the party, walking from mommy to daddy! The place went wild!

Too much party for these girls...
