Disneyland

I love Bob. Lois loves Bob. I love Lois. Thank you dear Mom for having Bob for a week’s vacation so I could experience Disneyland, The Happiest Place on Earth, with my grandson.

And I only called him Bob once.

Sam. Where to begin? Oh. My. God.

He is spectacular! With the exception of his first two weeks of life and a seven day Alaska cruise when I saw him sporadically throughout the days, this was definitely the most time I had spent with him, 5 days, virtually 16 hours a day. Heaven on earth.

I have so much to share with you but I hardly know where to begin. Hysterical stories, touching moments and a select few meltdowns. Memorables include: breakfast at the hotel where Sam was thrilled to eat a small piece of honeydew that was….. “shaped like a rhombus you know, Grandma!” and then of course there was the moment in the car after a long day of sightseeing, when the exhausted little boy said… “Give me a treat to calm me down, Mom-mee!” One of my favourite stories has to be when he asked me if I had “one butt” or “one butt and a penis” like himself and his daddy. This question was posed in a restaurant during a busy lunch hour. And then there is Sam’s obsession with my bite plate. “Is that your bite plate, Grandma? Why do you have a bite plate, Grandma? I don’t have a bite plate, Grandma. Can I touch your bite plate, Grandma?” Of course there was also the time when the more than pleasantly plump 65+ lady may have overheard Sam advising me (as she walked by our table…) “She has a baby in her tummy, Grandma! Grandma, she has a baby in her tummy! Grandma!” But my #1 Sam quote must be when we were discussing a young family sitting next to us at breakfast on the last morning. A mother, a father and twin 2 year old boys. “Trina has twins, Grandma. Grandma, Trina has twins! Trina, Grandma! Say Trina, Grandma! Trrr…eeen…aah. Excellent!” Oh no, hold on, maybe this is the best….there was the time when he said “I just farted Daddy. It smells like a cupcake.”

And how much do you think I loved it when Sam was writhing back and forth, confined in his stroller seatbelt, totally unwilling to listen to either parent’s voice of reason, shouting out “I want my Grandma…I need my Grandma!” There is a sick side of me that enjoyed that moment immensely.

I LOVED seeing my daughter and son-in-law getting caught up in the magic of make believe and I appreciate so deeply the love they share for their son. GT and I are grateful for the invitation to share this special time together. We hope to be invited again. I tried to be on my best behaviour but I wasn’t perfect. I think Sam is okay with me. Frankly, I just don’t care about the others.

Kiddin’. Well, not really.

This blog is about my thoughts about being a grandma. It absolutely blows my mind when I allow the level of my love for Sam to surface fully. I pray that you may be blessed with a “Sam” in your lifetime. My heart loves him completely, just as he is.

Magnificent.

Thank you God for Sam.
